Virtual rider coaching

with Kayla Yaakov

Virtual coaching gives my students the knowledge and improvements you get from in person coaching all through your laptop and mobile devices and at a fraction of the cost. Virtual Coaching is mainly aimed at the beginner to intermediate levels and done through student on board videos, my customized onboard videos (made specifically for areas individual students are working on), weekly zoom meetings, riding drills, debrief sessions after events and video/phone chats to guide the student with help while they are at a track event. The results and feedback so far has been amazing.

Humble. Approachable. Credible.

As an Air Force instructor/evaluator pilot, I can honestly say Kayla Yaakov exhibits the qualities in our Weapons School mantra of “Humble. Approachable. Credible.”

Kayla has transformed the weekend track day coaching construct into a personalized virtual coaching opportunity that leverages today’s collaborative technology to extend reach to so many throughout the country and work on the whole-of-person off the track.

Kayla spent over an hour in our first virtual meeting, hearing all about my ambitions, my specific on-track goals, and helped shape my training plan for us to start with….

This is so much more than a coach following me for a couple laps in a session. This is more than even hiring a dedicated coach for the weekend. This is hiring a dedicated coach for a long term time horizon to fine tune off-track training to perfect the on-track performance from the perspective of a professional and rising star in our sport.

In the weeks following our initial Google-Meet meeting, we established an off-track training regiment that she designed for specific learning objectives we were steering for in a given week/month; film review for upcoming tracks, informed by Kayla’s personal experience at each of these tracks; gym sessions tailored to major muscle groups relevant to on-bike performance, biomechanics, all of these pillars captured within weekly update meetings we hold together as our schedules allow. Eventually, when we do finally get to do an in-person coaching weekend together, I’ll have a professional who knows not just how im doing during that one single day, but who knows my history, my goals, my preparation, and can provide that feedback loop from the track day into our training regiment to further improve.

This is revolutionary.

My first track day since starting this was at Barber Motorsports Park in mid-June. Easily, I felt more prepared for this single track day than any other I’ve participated in. My pace was back. My confidence was back. In about 3 hours. After 9 months of no track riding.

That is entirely due to the training we did off-track. Without Kayla’s guidance, focused training plan, that day would not have been confidence inspiring. I wouldn’t know for sure, that what I was doing, the techniques I was focusing on, the body position, lines, etc were really what I should be focusing on leading up to the track day. Like so many other riders, we can get caught up in track times, gearing, tire selection, when in reality, many of these secondary elements of our riding will come naturally when all the fundamentals are in place. Her coaching takes all the guess-work out of learning to improve my riding.

Periodic messaging throughout a training period in-between my track days help bridge gaps in my knowledge and understanding from our video calls. Her dad has helped with questions I have with tire pressures and bike setup, she’s been empathetic when it comes to any of my concerns, frustrations with my riding, and meets me where I am to move forward. She is more than ready to work with you wherever you are in your riding journey, and tailors her teaching as required until things make sense.

This is an investment of yourself into yourself – you have to come prepared to work. Prepared to put in the hours of training, filming, uploading videos, studying. But you won’t be alone. You’ve got a professional in your corner who has spent her life working on this dream of her own, and can guide you to yours if you’re willing. I can’t recommend her enough in this revolutionary construct of motorcycle coaching!
